Mentorship

In addition to ongoing mentoring of research projects, RDSP faculty provide training in essential skills that are needed to sustain successful research programs. Skills in written and oral communication are developed through the courses as part of the Training Activities, as well as through ongoing efforts in preparing manuscripts and grant proposals. Activities also include mentoring in laboratory management, familiarization with regulatory compliance and funding agency policies, peer review process, management of laboratory resources, and skills for effective instruction of laboratory personnel.

Trainees can also participate in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Professional Advancement Initiative.

RDSTP Trainers and trainees receive training in best practices for research mentoring.

Further information about research mentoring for both mentors and mentees is available at the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research
